The TLM 170 i is a large diaphragm transformer-less microphone manufactured by Georg Neumann GmbH from 1983 until 1993. It was replaced by the TLM 170 R adding a remote polar pattern control available through a standard XLR-3 cable via a dedicated power supply unit (N 48 R-2 or N 248). The transformer-less technology features extremely low self-noise and an impressive dynamic range of 130 dB. Five directional characteristics are available via a five positions rotary switch. The capsule is the K 89 developed in 1979 for the U 89 microphone. The TLM 170 i features a rotary arm at one side for stand mount coupling. The microphone has switchable – 10 dB PAD and low-cut filter. The microphone was available in dark matt only, except for a 100 pieces limited edition, manufactured in 1983, named TLM 170i Ni polished Gotham Audio Jubilee. This first version is phantom powered with P 48 or P 24 standard.
