The ASM 5 surround microphone array is a collaboration between the SPL and Brauner companies. Based on the Herrmann/Henkels INA-5 microphone configuration it uses five Brauner capsules associated with Phantom electronics. The arms are adjustable to allow alternative arrangements, the capsule heads can be rotated +/-45° and their polar patterns can be changed remotely between omni and figure-8. The array interfaces to the purpose-built SPL Atmos 5.1 console which provides powering, preamplification, automated fader facilities, control of the polar patterns, full surround panning and complex LFE control. It also provides full monitoring and metering.
