Common name: Schoeps CMBI

Production Status: Discontinued / Vintage

The CMBI is a battery-powered microphone amplifier designed to power microphones requiring phantom power when none is available from a recorder or wireless transmitter. It is compatible with the microphones in the Colette series except for the miniature boundary-layer microphone capsule BLM 03 C. Powering by a 6V silver oxide battery allows for 80 hours of operation. About 6 hours before the end of battery life a built-in LED begins to light up as a warning. It has an unbalanced output; for operation with DAT recorders or cameras which do not offer phantom power. Because of the unbalanced, low-level output and its medium output impedance, the total cable length should be kept to less than about 49′ (15 m) to avoid possible RF interference and impaired performance. The CBI has a built-in 5-pin miniature connector to avoid mistakenly using phantom power. Includes the K 5 ISK 5 metre 5-pin to 3.5 mm stereo jack cable. Other cables are available optionally. Response curves are capsule dependent (see corresponding combination of CMC amplifier + MK microphone capsule).
