Common name: Royer Labs R-122V

Production Status: In production

The R-122V is an active ribbon microphone using a valve (tube) as an impedance matching device to buffer the load on the ribbon element. The 5840 tube is used in a cathode follower mode in conjunction with an output transformer and the higher voltage rail (compared to a phantom-powered one) allows for greater headroom. The ribbon element is the same as the R-122. Sensitivity is equal for front and back but the rear side is marginally brighter for close sounds. Includes shock-mount, power supply, microphone cable, protective cover and padded carrying case.
