The Type A is a “Bottle” style vacuum tube microphone amplifier manufactured by Blue and sold by Red Microphones between approximately 2005 and 2008. The preamplifier is based around an ECC88 vacuum tube. Several capsule were available. The basic R capsule is a large diaphragm cardioid. R0 – bright cardioid (sounds similar to an ELAM 251), R1- small diaphragm cardioid (sounds similar to a CK1), R2 – bidirectional, R3 – medium diaphragm cardioid, R4 (sounds similar to a K89) – small diaphragm sphere omnidirectional (sounds similar to a K55/M50), R5 – large diaphragm omnidirectional (sounds similar to an M55K), R6 – large diaphragm cardioid (sounds similar to a CK12), R7 – large diaphragm cardioid (sounds similar to a K47). Specifications are dependent on the head used. Includes custom shock-mount, Powerstream power supply, 5-pin microphone cable and flight case.
