The RCA KU-2A is a unidirectional ribbon microphone. It achieves its polar response thanks to two ribbon elements suspended in a common air gap. One element is open to the air, the other is connected via a tube to an acoustiuc labirinth to the back of the air gap responding to the pressure change. The two voltages combine to give an unidirectional polar response.
