The U 497 is a large diaphragm microphone specially manufactured for ORTF (french broadcasting network) from 1975 to 1985 by Georg Neumann GmbH. It has the classic U 67 / U 87 shape with a K 49 capsule and a solid state amplifier circuit derived from the U 47 fet (with a DC/DC converter), but adapted for 12 V phantom powering used in ORTF’s studios. It has three polar patterns (omnidirectional – cardioid – bidirectional), -10 dB capacitive pre-attenuator and high pass filter, all switchable at the head grille body. It fits XLR-3 connector.
