Common name: Neumann TLM 103

Production Status: In production

The TLM 103 is a large diaphragm microphone manufactured by Georg Neumann GmbH from 1997. The microphone is a high quality entry-level microphone with the U 67 – U 87 style head grille featuring the K 103 capsule. This is a simplified version of the K 67 / K 870 capsules used in the U 67 and the U 87 microphones, employing one only diaphragm for a fixed cardioid pattern. The microphone sound transducer is directly coupled to a SMD technology transformer-less preamplifier. The microphone body is made of high thickness metal to provide the correct weight and resonance-free performance. The TLM 103 has a very low self noise of 7 dB-A. The max SPL managed without pre-attenuation is quite impressive (138 dB) for a 131 dB of dynamic range. The frequency response shows a calibrated boost for frequencies over 5 kHz. Being designed as an entry level product, the microphone has had a great success and represents a real general purpose quality microphone for all kind of applications, where a cardioid polar pattern is needed. Its self noise specification makes it ideal for voice-overs and dubbing work. The microphone is available in both nickel and dark matt finish, in stereo set, mono set and several configuration with a wide range of accessories.
