SRM 64
Common name: Neumann SRM 64
Production Status: Discontinued / Vintage
The SRM 64 is a special “long neck stage” microphone manufactured by Georg Neumann GmbH from from middle 1964 until 1971. It can be considered a special purpose microphone derived from the KM 64. This microphone is helpful where an unobtrusive pickup microphone is required as often happens in film and television applications, stage theatres and rostrums. The amplifier is located within the base and the condenser capsule is placed at the top of a long and slim coupling tube. The height (neck length) is adjustable between 1,20 meters (4 feet) and 1,50 meters (5 feet). The microphone amplifier is based around a Telefunken AC 701 k tube and originates from the KM 64 microphone. A 6-pin T 3402 Tuchel connector fits the microphone base and can be powered from standard KM tube series PSU’s such as the NKM – NKMa and N52a. The capsule is the cardioid KK64 (later named KK84). The microphone frequency response has a slight fall below 100 Hz to compensate for the proximity effect. The high frequency response exhibits a slight rise (2-3 dB). A switchable 14 dB attenuation pad is available to avoid microphone preamplifier overload when necessary. The KK 64 (KK84) capsule features a constant frequency response for sounds sources within +- 135 degrees. A complex sound source moving in three-quarter circle around the microphone will only produce level change with no timbre variation.
