Common name: Neumann KM 185

Production Status: In production

KM is the acronym for “kleinmikrophon” meaning “little microphone”. This type of microphone was introduced by Neumann in 1953 with the KM 53. The KM 185 belongs to the “fet 100” series of transformer-less P 48 (phantom powered) microphones family. The KM 185 was introduced in 1999 to replace the KM 85. It employs the K 50 pressure gradient hypercardioid capsule, derived from the AK 50 active capsule developed for the KM 100 series modular system. This miniature microphone is shorter than the KM 85 and is available in both nickel finish and matt black, with an XLR-3 connector. The KM185 pressure gradient transducer features a very smooth frequency response, not only for the 0° axis but also for lateral (off-axis) sound incidence. Includes windscreen and swivel stand mount.
