Common name: Neumann KM 184

Production Status: In production

KM is the acronym for “kleinmikrophon” meaning “little microphone”. This kind of microphone was first introduced by Neumann in 1953 with the KM 53. The KM 184 belongs to the “fet 100” series of transformer-less P 48 (phantom-powered) microphones. The KM 184 is the successor of the popular KM 84 microphone, manufactured from 1993 until today. It employs the K 40 pressure gradient cardioid capsule, derived from the AK 40 active capsule developed for the KM 100 series modular system. This miniature microphone is shorter than the KM 84 and is available in the usual nickel finish or matt black, with an XLR-3 connector. The KM 184 pressure gradient transducer features a very smooth frequency response, not only for the 0° axis but also for lateral (off-axis) sound incidence. Includes windscreen and SG 21 swivel stand mount.
