KFM 100

Common name: Neumann KFM 100

Production Status: Discontinued / Vintage

The KFM 100 is an innovative stereo microphone manufactured by Georg Neumann GmbH. The system is based on a spherical surface in which are installed on opposite sides two pressure transducers (omnidirectional) coupled to a pair of transformer-less “fet 100” series amplifiers. The systems works similarly to a dummy heads, but it is optimized for loudspeakers reproduction, with both free and diffuse field flat frequency response. It exhibits top quality bass reproduction, excellent spatial and depth imagery, perfect sound sources localization with clean and uncoloured tone. The KFM 100 is equipped with two K 32 (see GFM 132) capsules with MCF (Pe/G) diaphragms. In spite of the excellent overall performance the KFM 100 had poor sale figures and didn’t catch on with professional users and sound engineers, so it was manufactured only between 1992 and 1998.
