Common name: Neumann BCM 705

Production Status: In production

The BCM 705 is the second microphone developed by Georg Neumann GmbH specifically for radio announcers and DJ’s. The microphone was introduced in 2005. It can be considered a BCM 104 variant equipped with a moving coil dynamic capsule, a first for Neumann. The microphone has the same external shape (green badged instead of red) and most of the BCM 104 mechanical features. The head grille features a quick-release arrangement to allow easy cleaning or replacement for individual use in addition to an integrated built-in pop screen filter. The BCM 705 external shape is optimized for radio broadcasting industry standard table boom and has a built-in elastic mount suppressing boom borne noises. The dynamic transducer is aimed at users needing a vintage style sound typical of free FM broadcasters pioneers, especially in the U.S., that used USA made dynamic microphones. The moving coil capsule is optimized for close speech and has a hyper-cardioid pattern. For frequencies above 1 kHz the near-field (5 cm) and diffuse field frequency responses are coincident.
