RE16

Common name: Electro-Voice RE16

Production Status: Discontinued / Vintage

The RE16 is a dynamic super-cardioid microphone featuring ElectroVoice patented Variable-D technique resulting in an uncoloured off-axis sound. The interference ducts with precisely calculated opening slots at the rear of the diaphragm provide maximum damping with no sound colouration at 180 degrees off-axis. The RE16 is very similar to the RE15 but adds an integral pop filter to minimise wind, breath and plosive noise making it suitable for outdoor handheld use. The microphone is equipped with a bass tilt-switch to compensate for bass frequencies falling-off when the microphone is far away from the sound source. This is achieved via a passive network equaliser providing 8 dB of boost between 100 Hz and 1 kHz. When used for close pickup it exhibits very little proximity effect. Internal transducer parts are nested together for maximum reliability and resistance to mechanical shock. The steel body provides optimum shielding against interference. The RE16 employs an exclusive non-metallic ElectroVoice Acoustalloy diaphragm providing a smooth frequency response while being insensitive to high humidity, extreme temperatures and corrosion resistant. It is finished in non-reflecting fawn beige micomatte. Includes model 310 stand mount, 18-feet, 2 conductor, shielded, broadcast type, synthetic rubber-jacketed cable and protective metal carrying case.
