The 4018A is a small diaphragm cardioid electret condenser microphone for instrument recording applications. The same capsule is also available with the MMP-C compact preamplifier with XLR output as the 4018C, with MMP-ER compact amplifier and rear cable as the 4018ER and with MMP-ES compact amplifier and side cable as the 4018ES.
