M216 Matrix

Common name: Telefunken Elektroakustik M216 Matrix

Production Status: Discontinued / Vintage

The M216 Matrix microphone features two large diaphragm capsules stacked one on top of the other. They can be offset by 90 degrees. Each capsule is independently switchable between omnidirectional and bidirectional with intermediate positions resulting in nine different pickup patterns. These provide X/Y mid-side and Blumlein stereo setups with possibility to tweak stereo image even further thanks to the intermediate positions.  These are controllable via the AMI Funkenwerk designed power supply that contains a mid-side matrix as well as a two extra outputs fed by the back side membranes of the two capsules for quadraphonic recording applications.  The amplification circuit is the same as the one used in the M16 MKII microphone, based around a NOS General Electric 6072A vacuum tube and an AMI BV-314 output transformer. Includes M916 power supply, microphone cable, wooden microphone box.
