The STC 4033a is a cardioid dynamic moving coil microphone paired with a bidirectional ribbon element. The two elements can be used together or independently. It is well suited to location recording in theatres, TV studios or recording studios. The microphone is protected against shock effects. The ribbon element is robust and suitable to boom mounting to be positioned where less dramatic air currents are present. The microphone can be switched between three settings: “C” for cardioid, “R” for bidirectional ribbon or “P” for pressure-only where it behaves like an omnidirectional dynamic microphone with acoustic baffle. In this setting the bass response is neutral while the high frequencies become gradually more directional over 2 kHz thanks to the baffle behaviour.
