The MKH 405 is an early RF capacitor microphone design. The omnidirectional MKH 104 was the first RF condenser microphone produced by Sennheiser in 1962, followed by the cardioid MKH 404. Both were battery-powered and had unbalanced output. Shortly after the MKH 105 and MKH 405 were released when 12v AB powering (T-12 or “Tonader”) became available and allowed using common three conductor balanced cables and small Tuchel 3262 (DIN) connectors.
