44
Common name: RCA 44
Production Status: Discontinued / Vintage
The RCA 44 is a classic ribbon microphone from 1933. The design exists in many forms including suffix A, B and BX with slightly different performance – figures quoted are for the BX. The microphone is a high quality studio type with a long corrugated ribbon. The pattern is an almost perfectly symmetrical figure-of-eight. “V”or “M”” connections internally allow a correction for proximity effect and the output impedance can be changed to 50 ohm using a transformer tap. The “44” was very widely used in film and recording circles. (RCA44 image – all rights reserved ©1996-2004 James Steele)
