The U 397 is a large diaphragm condenser microphone especially manufactured for the ORTF (French Broadcasting Network) from 1971 to 1976 by Georg Neumann GmbH. It has the classic U 67 / U 87 body shape and is equipped with a K 870 capsule. The microphone works with – 9 V (+/-1 V.) special phantom powering followed by a DC/DC converter for capsule polarization. It can be switched between omnidirectional, cardioid and bidirectional polar pattern, has a -10 dB capacitive pre-attenuator and high pass filter. The U 397 uses the French SOGIE connector.
