ZUM 64

Common name: Microtech Gefell ZUM 64

Production Status: Discontinued / Vintage

The ZUM 64 vacuum tube microphone was specially developed for different types of stereophonic recording techniques (MS and XY). It employs two miniatures EC 760 vacuum tubes. The two capsules can also be used separately if two different polar pickups are needed from a single position. The ZUM 64 is offers two single microphones combined into one unit, where two dual gold plated diaphragms, single backplate M7 PVC capsules are rotatable against each other by 180 degrees. The capsules are internally isolated from each other. To help in positioning the upper capsule basket has a colour marking which easily recognisable even from a distance. Both capsules polar patterns (omnidirectional, cardioid and figure of eight) can be switched remotely from the ZUN 64 power supply. If a higher output signal is needed the ZUN 64 V (Verstarker) power supply has a built in transistor amplifier. The ZUM 64 can be used with either the MH 43 microphone holder or the TS 58 table stand. It was released in 1966.
