Production Status: Discontinued / Vintage
The UM 70 S is a large diaphragm multi-pattern condenser microphone. It features a dual gold-plated PVC diaphragm over a single brass backplate capsule. U stands for switchable (Umschaltbar) while “S” denotes a higher sensitivity compared to the previous model (MV 692 amplifier plus UM 70 detachable capsule) now providing 80-volt polarisation to the M 7 capsule. Omnidirectional, cardioid and bidirectional (figure of eight) pickup patterns are switchable by rotating a ring at the base of the capsule grill. The cardioid and bidirectional patterns exhibit a boost with a peak of 7 dB at 7 kHz while the omnidirectional has a peak of 2 dB at 10.5 kHz. The amplifier circuit employs a low noise FET and an output transformer. It also features a 10 dB switchable attenuation pad and a 10 dB at 60 Hz low cut filter. Includes a wooden box. The specifications shown are for the cardioid polar pattern.
