The UM 70 is a dual PVC membrane, centre terminated, single brass backplate multi pattern switchable (Umschaltbar) capsule. Polar patterns can be switched between omnidirectional, cardioid and bidirectional (figure of eight) pickup responses. It is part of the SMS (Studio Microphone System) 70 series. It can be used with the MV 691 and MV 692 preamplifier bodies. It can also be used with the CMV 563 via a special adapter and with the M582 with a modification (to accept threaded capsule mounts). It was first produced in 1970 until about 1994. The Radio version of the UM 70 was called M 96.
