The MV 692 microphone amplifier was first produced in 1973 and was part of the SMS (Studio Microphone System) 70 series. The main difference between the MV 691 and the MV 692 are an on board switchable 10 dB attenuation pad previously only available as an in-line barrel add on, a switchable low-cut filter and higher signal output. It is a transformer coupled FET transistor microphone body (no feedback circuit) developed by Siegfried Thiersch then development engineer at Gefell (RTF VEB MTG) in cooperation with the RFZ Berlin (Rundfunktechnisches Zentralamt Berlin). The MV 692 can use several capsules: M69, M70, M71, M73, M79, M94 and the multi-pattern UM 70. It can be powered by the N 690, N 691 or N 692 power supply units via a C 61 7-pin cable. Specifications shown refer to the UM70 capsule set to cardioid. The Radio version of the MV 692 was called M 792 a.
