The MV 691 microphone amplifier was first produced in 1973 as a successor for the MV 690 and was part of the SMS (Studio Microphone System) 70 series. It is a transformer coupled FET transistor microphone body (no feedback circuit) developed by Siegfried Thiersch then development engineer at Gefell (RTF VEB MTG) in cooperation with the RFZ Berlin (Rundfunktechnisches Zentralamt Berlin). The MV691 can use several capsules: M 93, M 69, M 70, M 71, M 72, M 73, M 79, M 94 and the multi-pattern UM 70. It can be powered by the N 690, N 691 or N 692 power supply units via a C 61 7-pin cable. Specifications shown refer to the M58/M93 omnidirectional capsule. The Radio version of the MV6 91 was called M 792.
