RE34
Common name: Electro-Voice RE34
Production Status: Discontinued / Vintage
The RE34 is a 9-volt battery powered handheld electret cardioid condenser microphone equipped with a transformer coupled line level amplifier and peak limiter. It also features a switchable line to microphone level attenuator and a battery status indicator. It is designed to provide a microphone or line level output in broadcast applications requiring interfacing with a telephone line feed or a microwave transmitters. The microphone features a long handle made of very strong graphite reinforced plastic, providing comfort over long periods of use and a secure grip under all conditions. The handle houses a battery on/off switch that also functions as a silent mute switch when the microphone is phantom powered and a recessed switch controlling the internal line level to microphone level attenuator. Located between the switches an electro-pulse circuit with LED indicator shows battery current drain and duration. The LED can also be used as a phantom presence indicator or remote “Q” (tally) light. The line level amplifier employs discrete components for optimum combination of output capability and current demand. The line level output uses a large saturation-resistant transformer. The capsule, preamplifier and windscreen are housed in the transducer assembly and separated from the line level amplifier to reduce sensitivity to handling noise and humidity. The RE34 moisture sensitive contacts are encased in a non-hydroscopic potting compound. Includes stand clamp and zippered vinyl carrying case.
