Common name: Electro-Voice 676

Production Status: Discontinued / Vintage

The 676 is a cardioid dynamic microphone designed for public address, recording and communications. It features the Continuously Variable-D principle, an evolution of the patented Variable-D where uniform rejection of unwanted noise is achieved with two identical slotted tubes coupled to the back of the diaphragm, whose length varies inversely with sound frequency in order to phase out unwanted sound. The diaphragm is a non-metallic Acoustalloy type, providing smooth frequency response while being immune to high humidity, temperature swings and corrosion. The microphone features a three position bass tilt control providing an off setting, a 5 dB and 10 dB tilt-off starting at 800 Hz. This is useful when recording in very large rooms with less than perfect reverberation characteristics. The microphone is wired for high impedance but if needed can be changed to low impedance by changing wire positions within the connector housing. Includes a 15-foot, 2 conductor, shielded broadcast type cable and stand adapter. It was available in satin chrome, decorative gold (676G) and TV grey (676A).
