SR71

Common name: Earthworks SR71

Production Status: Discontinued / Vintage

The SR71 is a cardioid microphone intended for live sound, but is equally useful for recording. Its pickup pattern is unusual. The entire front hemisphere is open and natural, and the sonic character doesn’t change very much as you move off-axis. Even at 90° it is flatter than most mics are on-axis. Its bass response is flat at 15 cm. At ambient distances the bass response elbows down at 400 Hz and is down 5.5 dB at 100 Hz. This is an advantage for many applications.
