The OctoMic is a medium diaphragm cardioid electret condenser microphone equipped with eight capsules for 2nd-order (2h1v) ambisonic for VR, surround, stereo and mono recording applications. The desired polar pattern can be selected during decoding. VVOctoEncode VST/AAX plug in is available to registered users together with calibration file. The plug-in performs A- to B-format conversion and outputs standard 9-channel 2nd-order B-format. It is Windows, Mac and Linux compatible. The capsules are selected and matched into calibrated sets. The microphone 12-pin output connector feeds the PPAc8 transmitter box that converts the unbalanced audio from the microphone to balanced signals and feeds two PPAc8 receivers via two Ethercon cables. Each receiver has four XLR-M allowing connection to a sound card or recorder. The PPAc8 also provides phantom power via your chosen recorder to the microphone. The OctoMic is ideal mi for recording Virtual Reality projects, including cinema, video games, music and ambience. In post-production the user can define arbitrarily define complex microphone configurations, and dynamically track sound sources in space. During playback, it allows for dynamic head-tracking and an unlimited number of playback speaker configurations. Sensitivity and SPL data is provided per capsule, self noise per array.
