The R88A (formerly known as the A840) is a powered version of the R84 but using a Lundahl transformer rather than a Cinemag, and thus giving it a slightly different character. The natural resonance of the ribbon is particularly low – 16.5Hz. The phantom-powered buffering gives a higher output than the unbuffered R84 and a freedom from preamplifier impedance issues, while still having a high max SPL rating. The ribbon is 1.8micron x 4.7mm x 59.7mm.
