M 221

Common name: Microtech Gefell M 221

Production Status: In production

The M 221 is a small diaphragm omnidirectional condenser microphone with a 1/2″ nickel diaphragm certified measurement capsule and a modular phantom powered preamplifier providing the 200 volt polarisation needed for the pickup element. The microphone excels at recording acoustic instruments within a given space (rom or hall) as a main microphone in Decca Tree or AB setups but is equally suited as a spot microphone thanks to its excellent transient response, and transmission properties. The microphone comes furnished with two spherical ball elements, the KA 3 that provides a high frequency rise starting at 1 kHz and reaching a 3 dB boost between 4 kHz and 12 kHz and the KA 4 with a high frequency rise starting at 1 kHz and reaching a 3 dB boost between 3 kHz and 12 kHz. A special TA 202 adapter is available separately to operate the M 221 in unfavourable climate conditions where temperature and humidity could pose a problem. Includes wooden box, KA 3 and KA 4 ball adapters and MH.93.1 microphone holder.
