D 12E

Common name: AKG D 12E

Production Status: Discontinued / Vintage

The D 12E is a heavy and robust dynamic microphone introduced in 1953 and widely used in music and TV studios. Resonance (a so-called bass chamber) was used to extend the bass response with a slight lift between 60 and 120Hz. The large diaphragm was shocked mounted internally and there was a hum compensation winding. These factors made the microphone popular for bass instruments. The design proved to be the basis for several other classic AKG micriphones including the D 25.
