The D 224 is a dual capsule dynamic microphone building on the principles of the earlier D 202. The use of a separate LF capsule (mounted in the top behind the treble one but ported from the rear) allows a cardioid pattern that is constant irrespective of frequency. There is no proximity effect. The diaphragms are Makrofoil and the capsules have individual hum compensation coils. The dual port design requires two foam windshields making it easily recognisable from a distance. Suffix C fitted with a DIN connector, suffix E with an XLR.
