The 4040 uses improved magnet technology to give a flat response to 20 kHz with near constant figure-of-eight response in horizontal and vertical planes. The ribbon and magnet assembly has a built-in shock mount (lockable in transit) to isolate it mechanically. There is also no discernible external magnet field and pairs can be mounted in a classic Blumlein stereo configuration.
