CMC 640
Common name: Schoeps CMC 640
Production Status: Discontinued / Vintage
The CMC 640 is a small diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone, specially designed for the pickup of close speech (under 50 cm). It is similar to the CMC 64 S, but with an additional high-frequency emphasis. This capsule type has the same features as the MK 4 S, but in addition emphasises the frequency response in the 9 kHz region by 4 dB. This effects a further improvement of speech intelligibility, particularly in very reverberant venues such as churches. The MK 40 is used primarily for sound reinforcement of speech. It is not particularly recommended for music recording. The microphone amplifier CMC 6 U and the capsule MK 40 form part of a modular microphone which permits the insertion of RC tubes or KC cables as well as other electronically active accessories between capsule and amplifier allowing for miniaturisation. The CMC 6U Amplifier offers a symmetrical, transformer-less, direct-coupled Class A output stage with low impedance, distortion, and interference. It is designed for standard 48 and 12 V phantom powering. Its circuitry recognises the supply voltage and adjusts itself automatically. Includes wooden box, SG 20 stand mount clamp and B 5 D windscreen. Also available as the compact condenser microphone CCM 40.
