TL 4

Common name: Pearl TL 4

Production Status: Discontinued / Vintage

The TL 4 uses the classic Pearl capsule with rectangular dual membranes mounted back to back. The frequency range is 20Hz to 25kHz. A variety of polar patterns may be obtained by bringing the output of each membrane into separate mixer channels. In effect, they provide two discrete cardioid outputs which may be used simultaneously or independently, to obtain cardioid, omni, figure-of-8, 180° coincident stereo, and virtually any pattern in between, by use of the mixing console. The TL 4 is a so-called High Level microphone providing approximately 20dB higher output level than conventional condenser microphones. It has 120 Mv/Pa sensitivity as opposed to 16 Mv/Pa  of the TL 44.
