Common name: M-Audio Sputnik
Production Status: Discontinued / Vintage
The Sputnik is a large-diaphragm studio microphone using vacuum tube electronics and a transformer output. The capsule is a dual diaphrgam type to allow for switchable patterns. The diaphragms are 3-micron gold-evaporated and the tube is a low-current 6205M dual triode intended to keep thermal dissipation low. The body is machined from brass and the lollipop-shape grille is slim compared to its 75mm width. Manufacturing tolerances for frequency response are quoted as +/-1.5 dB so that any pair can be regarded as stereo-matched.
